So, is it summer where you are? I mean, summer being defined as school being out?
The schools are all our for the year here in Hawaii.
Well, almost.
My boys are still finishing their standardized testing, and wrapping up a few other loose ends this week. Which makes for a very long week indeed. It may just kill them. And me. And anyone else in our path.
Yeah, we’re all ready for summer!
This is also the time of year, where the waves leave the North Shore and camp out on the South Shore for the summer. It is a rare day that we get a good swell up here, and the waves won’t be back until around September.
This means we take a lot of day trips south into Honolulu, (thus the recent contests and training at Kewalos Basin, Ala Moana, Waikiki, etc.)
And when we are here on the North Shore, we get to focus a bit more on…Playing! You know, like what you might imagine doing in Hawaii! (I don’t mind that part at all.)
Summer is great for Stand-Up-Paddling, snorkeling, and just goofing off. Waimea Bay is a favorite of course, and this time of year we even sometimes see DOLPHIN families (pods? Schools? Help, I’m tired!) swimming through the bay. It is so cool.
This afternoon we blew off some (standardized testing) steam and hit the Bay for a couple of hours. Josiah did his thing and filmed the adventures. I know it is easy to skip these videos, but if it’s been awhile since you’ve been swimming with a turtle, or jumped off a big rock…or…well, just watch this one! It’s short, and I think you’ll like it.
Hopefully this summer we’ll get some GoPro footage with a dolphin pack (or is it clan? Or tribe?…don’t worry, I’m going to bed.)
Before I leave you I will share a couple photos from Memorial Day. Our family took a dip in the water right in front of my parent’s condo in Haleiwa, and it got me really ready for all summer has to offer!

Hope you are headed into an amazing summer wherever you are!
Aloha,

I Know I already commented on thegrommom Facebook page, but I gotta go again. This is a great post! As someone who is flying headlong into a cold winter, you have fully achieved your purpose – sharing aloha wherever we are…
Seriously though – that vid is particularly good, as is the pic of Jonah on the SUP at sunset (it is Jonah right – its a bit hard to tell with the haircut…)
Anyway, still lovin the posts…!
Looking forward to one day snorkelling with a pod of Hawaiian dolphins some day (as opposed to the Aussie kind).

Thank you Greg! And as much as it’s hard to imagine WINTER right now–I always love to see some snow, so it’s fun both ways!
Yes–that is Jonah, and I’m impressed you’ve got them figured out so well! We need to get some kids SUPboards so they’ll quit taking mine…
Get your plans together, and let us know!

stand-up-paddling… that is on my list of things to do one day! Looks like it would be so relaxing!
