Surfing and Skating is really big here on the North shore of Oahu. There is so much competition, and so many amazing young athletes who all seem to be getting better every day. It isn’t easy to stand out from the crowd, that’s for sure. But our little (8 year-old) Luke has been training really hard, and it seems his time is coming.

Word is getting out about Luke, and I have this funny feeling (Ok, it’s more than a feeling but nothing is official yet so I have to be quiet a little longer) that he is going to be truly noticed soon. You know, by someone who might support his habits a bit. In the grom-industries they call it “sponsorship,” or sometimes just being a “flow-rider,” (Flow meaning a company “flows” you product to keep you happy and wearing their brand. )
Anyways, without going into that, I’ll just say that most kids who surf and skate their brains out every day kind-of dream of being recognized by some great brand. As a family, we don’t focus on it, but the boys can’t help but hope for it. What many of the groms do is put together their “best of” skate and/or surf videos to send out to different companies in hopes of being noticed.
Josiah, (being the world’s best big brother,) just finished putting together Luke’s best-of video. I think that is incredibly cool since Josiah hasn’t even finished putting together his own “best of” video yet. As passionate as Josiah is about surfing and skating, he is also Luke’s biggest fan.
For now, here is the “best of Luke” video, hot off the press. We are about to send this out to a few companies that we think might just like our little Lukey. And if you happen to know anyone in “the industry” (haha, I don’t know what else to call it,) feel free to pass this along. Luke is going places, we are SURE of that! The question is, who wants to go there with him!?
Of course I’ll keep you posted as his young career progresses!
We are so thankful for all of you who have been around to watch him grow and develop. He smiles large with every positive comment and encouragement I pass on to him from you! Thank you!
(And feel free to check out all of their action photos and videos at the GROM TALENT page!)
Aloha,
Grommom.
PS I’m seriously editing this the day AFTER I posted it because the boys are telling me that they are about to RE-DO most of that video because they have some “way better” clips to add to it before they send it off. (Nothing like telling me that AFTER I post this thing, right? Geesh. )
PPS Luke’s rad grom gear is once again from Up&Riding. Click on link or on ad in my side bar for some sweet back-to-school sales!

that’s awesome! when i was a grom 2 of my really good friends were sponsored (they were sisters)- one by billabong and one by volcom. They both ended up on north shore for a while too. i loved when they’d get packages from their sponsors (they’d alwyas hook me up with stuff, haha). My laptop doesn’t want to play this video for some reason, but good luck, luke!
Luke–you’ve gotten so good!! And you are getting better looking every day! I’m so proud of you, can’t wait to see you in action. Looking forward to Sept. 25th!
