If you’ve been around the North Shore this week, you’ve seen a lot of smiling groms making sure everyone knows: “The Sand bar is going off at Ehukai!”
The Sand Bar phenomenon happens a couple times a year. Though I don’t really understand how it happens, (certain wind patterns, or waves, or maybe the moon aligning with Jupiter-) but when it happens–a particularly fun wave pattern occurs, and the groms come out of the woodwork.
I don’t think kids around here have any idea how very good they have it! This has been the after school scene all week:
We’ve spent many hours this week down at that sandbar. It’s a great spot to watch because the surfers are literally a few feet off the beach. The view is spectacular. The boys surf for hours, and then come in and say, “Just a few more minutes mom?” And back out they go:
*a little blurry, sorry…
Luke just wanted to get barreled.
The party has gone on and on.
And the rest of us…Just enjoy the view.
Until the sun goes down.
And then all of the groms go home, eat everything in the house. And sleep really, REALLY well.
