I announced earlier this week that every Thursday I would try to come up with a health or fitness related post to share here. I’m a little nervous about this because more recently I’ve been a little out-of-touch with the health and fitness industry. I did study Sports Medicine in College, but don’t ask me how long ago that was. And I have spent most of my adult life either teaching group fitness or personal training, but I left all of that behind when we moved out to the country last year. So, this is gonna be some great accountability for me! (Eeks.)
I would like to spend more time keeping up with the ever-changing world of health and fitness. I would also love to find more fitness-related blogs to read (PLEASE, pass on your favorites!!) Hopefully I’ll keep trying and learning new things and I’ll keep passing them on to you here!
So, since we’re just on DAY ONE of this venture–May I ask you: Do you have fitness goals you’re working toward? Anyone trying to lose weight, or training for a marathon, or trying to clean up your diet? Do you love yoga, or zumba, or running, or maybe sitting on the couch? If I know what interests YOU in the area of health and fitness, I’ll be happy to target some of that here.
Deal?
Deal.
Besides all of that, in time I’ll also plan to share more about my own fitness story– struggles I’ve encountered, and how I’ve overcome them. IF you have specific questions about all of that, go ahead and ask!
For today however, I am excited to give you the LINK to a BRAND NEW PAGE that I just published! It is a little list of the “Rules” (I hate that word, but…) that I personally follow to stay as healthy and fit as I can. And when I say healthy and fit, I mean the kind that goes with being real and happy (ie, eating REAL food–including chocolate– and refusing to be a slave to workouts.)
This wasn’t easy to do….but I do hope something in it encourages you. So hurry over there and read it!
***For future reference, the “10 Rules” page will be found under “In Case You’ve Wondered” Tab at the top of my blog.
Have a happy and healthy Thursday!
Aloha,
GM

I love this! As a sophomore in college (who only recently started becoming conscious of working out and being healthy) it’s always just a time and motivation issue. I wish I could give you more ideas of what to write but I think it can be such an individual problem sometimes! I still can’t wait to see what you come up with, though :] If I have any more thoughts, I’ll definitely let you know!
Oh my goodness, so many loaded questions in this post today. Where do I even begin to answer them for you. Right now, my goal is getting in “Hawaii Shape”. You know where I can hike to waterfalls, and Maybe to the top of Koko head without dying. and actually manage to stand up and stay up while trying SUPing (is that a word). And where I feel comfortable enough in a swimsuit to lie on the beach without covering up.
And then after that, it’s time to start training for another half marathon. I did one in 2010, at the beginning of my weight loss journey, and if all goes well i should be at goal weight by the time it rolls around again next year. I would love to “bookend” the active weight loss section of this journey with the same race.
Oh and i love zumba and yoga. Which reminds me, i better get cracking on the chores so I can go to yoga tonight.
I am a life-long athlete, without an athlete’s body. I’ve always enjoyed healthy activities and have done just about everything, but struggled with weight and finding what works for me.
After my kids were born I bought a Stroller Strides franchise and that was so much fun! When I left that I kept working out on my own with DVDs.
A couple of years ago I started doing spin and then P90X (which I did 2 times) It was the beginning of a routine for me. Today I do MaxCapacityTraining.com 3 days a week (I’m almost done with my second round) and DVDs like Bob Harper and Tae Bo.
I love being active and healthy so that I can run and play with my kids. We snow ski during the winter and it’s always more enjoyable to do that when I’m in shape. The last 3 years have been great with a good workout routine.
I also bought a Nutri-Bullet and I love what I can do with it. My body craves spinach smoothies now. Weird.
I’m looking forward to this series. Have fun finding out about new ideas!
P.S. I love my Indo board too!!!
Can’t wait to read these posts when you get going. Gonna be great.
For me, I guess since the marathon in April, I’m keen to return to a good level of fitness, but I reckon it’s about focussing on some all round fitness ideas, rather than sport-specific training, after the run, I found that my upper body strength had really suffered, so when I got back into sailing and surfing, I really struggled. Now I’m doing a lot less running, my aerobic fitness is suffering, if you have any tips on building up a level of core fitness that you can then adapt depending on what sport/activity/interest might come next, that’d be awesome!
